What to Wear to a Renaissance Faire: A Comfortable, Plus-Size-Friendly Guide

A Renaissance faire is a long day on your feet, often outdoors, in sun, dust or a cool evening breeze. The best faire outfits look the part and stay comfortable from the opening joust to the last pint. Here is how to build one, in any size.

Start with a peasant blouse

A loose, embroidered peasant blouse is the easiest way into the look. Scooped or lace-up necklines, bell sleeves and soft rayon read as Renaissance without the heat of a full costume, and you can wear the same top with jeans the next day.

Add a long, full skirt

Pair the blouse with an ankle-length skirt that has room to move. Embroidered rayon, tiered or scalloped hems and elastic or drawstring waists are made for walking the lanes. Browse our boho maxi skirts for tie-dye, patchwork and embroidered options.

Or go all in with a gown

A corset-back or velvet gown makes a bigger statement. Look for flared skirts and lacing you can adjust at the waist, so the dress fits comfortably all day. Our plus-size Renaissance dresses all come in at least one plus size, many up to 3X.

Plan for the weather

Faire days can start cold and end hot. A razor-cut or fleece-lined hoodie over your outfit keeps the morning chill off and packs into a bag by noon. See our hippie hoodies.

Finish with small details

A crossbody bag keeps your hands free for turkey legs and shopping, and a wooden or rudraksha mala adds a handmade touch. Comfortable shoes matter more than anything else you wear.

Quick checklist

  • Loose embroidered blouse
  • Long skirt with an easy waist, or a gown with adjustable lacing
  • A warm layer for the morning
  • Crossbody bag
  • Comfortable, broken-in shoes
